As soon as a woman or girl walks through our doors they are greeted by the staff and introduced to e veryone at The Women's Collective as well as introduced to our space. This is a unique and critical approach that ensures women and their family members feel welcome here at all times, under any circumstances. In the same spirit, we'd like to introduce you to womenscollective.org, our home on the internet. The Women's Collective is a unique non-profit in the District of Columbia that provides HIV Care Management, HIV Prevention Services, and Policy and Advocacy to/for women, girls and families. Our services include: Family-centered Case Management Services: serving women, girls and family members some of whom are children infected with HIV/AIDS. - Prevention with Positives (PWP) Program: enhancing the health and well being of women ages 18+ living with HIV/AIDS while reducing their risk through multiple interventions.
- Mental Health Therapy Services: providing therapuetic one-on-one, couples, and family counseling to women living with HIV/AIDS.
- HIV Counseling, Testing and Referral Services: providing woman-focused testing for women, girls and their partner(s) utilizing OraQuick rapid tests.
- HIV Outreach, Referral and Recruitment Services: training women and girls living with and at risk for HIV/AIDS to conduct HIV prevention outreach in our community.
- Sisters InterActing Together (SisterAct) Program: providing two cutting edge HIV preveniton interventions to women and girls ages 12+ through intergenerational and young women- and girl-centered approaches.
- Peer-based and Therapeutic Support Groups: providing safe space for women to engage, share stories, and support each other.
Skills Building Groups: providing interventions designed to increase women’s knowledge, skills and awareness. Sister Circle Treatment Education Program: educating women about the medical manifestations of HIV/AIDS in a woman-focused, sensitive and nonjudgmental environment. National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps/Caring Counts Program: working to place AmeriCorps members on the frontline of HIV prevention efforts with women and girls in the District of Columbia. Family Social Activities: providing families with opportunities to engage, have fun and distress. Tiffany Fund: providing emergency financial assistance to women and their families for expenses not easily provided among broader community resources. Education Fund and GED Training Program: providing financial assistance for educational expenses not easily provided among broader community resources and includes back to school supplies. Women also have access to GED preperation sessions. Fighting for Our Lives: providing HIV primary and secondary prevention information to increase women’s knowledge and skills. Resource Room, Community Kitchen & Pantry: providing resources and information, a gathering site for women with snacks, drinks, breakfast, lunch and dinner foods and a small pantry of food for women and families who are in need. providing resources and information, a gathering site for women with snacks, drinks, breakfast, lunch and dinner foods and a small pantry of food for women and families who are in need. Support Services: providing respite care, child care, transportation assistance to support women. Sisters in the Struggle: sharing role model stories, treatment education and advocacy articles; Training and Technical Assistance: assisting local, national and international agencies to develop programs that are sensitive to women and families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Local, National and International Policy Advocacy: addressing disparities in policy for women, children and families. Friends of The Women’s Collective: volunteering time to support our mission-community members have an impact on our work by providing skills and resources.
