Debate Continues on Provider Conscience Regulations

On July 6, NPRs Morning Edition explored the Obama Administration's progress on repealing Bush-Era "Provider Conscience Regulations. In an onair piece entitled: Some Docs Resist Repeal Of Bush-Era Abortion Regs, NPR explores why some doctors who oppose abortion and, in some cases, birth control pills say they may stop providing care if the Obama administration follows through on threats to repeal controversial Bush administration regulations aimed at allowing health care workers to refuse to provide care that conflicts with their beliefs. Opponents of the rules point out that those health care workers have plenty of other protections to fall back on. Listen to the story on Morning Edition.

 
Homeless Woman's Death Outside a Shelter Raises Questions

June 12, 2009 - The death of a homeless woman outside a shelter is raising questions about how the city treats those who are sick and without housing. One of the final acts of Renee Paige's life was a gift a birthday present to be exact. Page, homeless, broke and reportedly suffering from AIDS, surprised 26-year-old Mario Jones with a white birthday cake. She passed away a few hours later in the same place she had been all month: on a green bench a few yards from the Community for Creative Non-Violence homeless shelters front steps.

OneDay OneRide OneCause Event to Benefit TWC

The OneDay OneRide OneCause Charity Bike Ride, is a 1-day, 40-mile charity ride through the neighborhoods of the District of Columbia. This event is organized by Brother to Brother, Sister to Sister United, Inc. (BBSSU).

In our Nation’s capital, a city where an estimated 1 in 20 persons are possibly infected by HIV and AIDS, BBSSU (a cycling club), and a coalition of  AIDS-related organizations bicyclists from the Washington, DC metropolitan area and across the country, and Volunteers will come together to fight 40 miles of hills and city streets to help make a difference in the lives of those of men, women, children and families affected or infected with HIV/AIDS!

TWC is a 2009 beneficiary of the August 16, 2009 event.  Find out more and make sure you aren't the only ONE missing!
